Fall 2024 Hymn Festival & Music Conference

One Generation to Another: The Role of Music in Preserving the Witness of the Church

Saturday, October 12, 2024:

Lutheran Hymnody Conference: 9 AM - 2:30 PM

Hymn Festival: 3 PM

Guest Pastor: Rev. William Weedon, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hamel, IL and Lutheran Public Radio

Organist: Kantor Jacquelyn Magnuson, Grace Lutheran Church, Little Rock, AR

The conference celebrated 500 years of the first Lutheran hymnals and the rich heritage of Lutheran hymnody. Rev. William Weedon provided an opportunity for conference attendees to grow in faith and knowledge by teaching how hymnody preserves doctrine and shapes us into the one holy catholic (Christian) faith. We sang hymns from many eras in the Church’s history and explore how each generation utilizes hymnody to pass the faith on to the next.

The hymn festival gave special attention to the hymns of Dr. Martin Luther, exploring how Luther set the course for Reformation hymnody by retaining the ancient canticles and liturgical hymns which he himself had received, setting them in the vernacular to teach the faith to the following generation.
